Snap Rentals Rental Terms for travel between 01-Jan-2015 and 31-Dec-2018

Deposit taken at time of booking is non refundable.

All tariffs are in New Zealand Dollars (NZ$) and are inclusive of New Zealand Goods and Services Tax (GST).Hours of operation are 8am to 5pm, seven days a week. Snap Rentals is closed on the 25th of December (Christmas Day).

Drivers requirements and licence

No special drivers licence is required to drive in New Zealand, however all drivers must hold a current valid licence for the duration of the hire period. An international or country of origin drivers licence is acceptable however if the drivers licence is not in English format, then an international drivers licence or certified translation is also required. No minimum or maximum age restriction applies.

Daily hire charges

Daily hire charges are calculated on a per twenty-four hour day basis.

Deposit and payments

A non refundable deposit is taken at time of booking. The balance is payable on the day the rental period commences. For after hours collections, payment is taken the working day prior to rental commencement. If the hirer cancels the booking prior to collection then the cancellation policy will apply.

Credit cards

Our preferred payment methods are by credit card or cash (in NZ$). Snap Rentals accepts Visa, MasterCard, and American Express however a surcharge fee of 2.0% on all Visa and Mastercard transactions and 5.0% on any American Express transactions applies. Snap Rentals requires a credit card to be used as a bond on all rentals agreements and this must be the credit card of the main hirer unless prior arrangements have been made. A cash bond can be used however this will be the insurance excess or a minimum of a NZ$250. Your credit card details or cash bond will be retained by Snap Rentals for up to 90 days following the conclusion of the hire in accordance with these terms and conditions.


Our cancellation fees are as follows: Cancelled at least 3 days before pick up No further charges apply.

    Cancelled 1 – 3 days prior to pick up 50% of the rental (including accessories and insurance) is payable to Snap Rentals and/or the booking agent.
    Cancelled on the day or no show 100% of the rental (including accessories and insurance) is payable to Snap Rentals and/or the booking agent.


If an amendment is made to the hire dates within 3 days prior to collection or during the hire, no refund will be made if the length of the hire is decreased (that is, the rental will be charged at the number of days originally booked). If the hirer wishes to extend the rental whilst on hire, they must first obtain authorisation from Snap Rentals. Any extension is subject to fleet availability and Snap Rentals will advise of the additional cost. Failure to obtain authorisation (i.e. a late return) will result in the hirer being charged the daily rate plus an additional NZ$200 for each day. If the hirer wishes to change the pick up or drop off location after confirmation of the booking, or during the hire period, authorisation from Snap Rentals must be obtained. Subject to the change being approved, an additional charge of NZ$750 may apply. If the vehicle is returned early for any reason there is no refund available for the unused portion of the hire.


All vehicles are supplied with a full tank of fuel and accordingly, all vehicles must be returned with a full tank of fuel. If the vehicle is returned without a full tank of fuel, the hirer is liable for the cost of the fuel, plus a fee of NZ$25.

Extra fees

If the vehicle is not returned in a tidy condition, a fee of NZ$50 will apply
If smoking is undertaken inside the vehicle, a fee of NZ$100 will apply.

No Pets. a $200 cleaning fee will apply.

Traffic infringements and fines: All traffic infringements and fines are the responsibility of the hirer. Snap Rentals will charge the hirer’s credit card the cost of the fine, plus a processing fee of NZ$50 in the event of an infringement or fine being received from a relevant authority. In the circumstances of credit card failure, or no credit card is supplied, Snap Rentals reserves the right to pass on the hirer’s details to the relevant authority.

If, as at the completion date of your rental agreement, any costs associated with your rental have not been paid, or subsequent to this completion date you become liable for additional costs in relation to your rental agreement, we reserve the right to refer your account to a debt collection agency. In these circumstances, and solely at our discretion, you may become liable for all costs incurred by us in relation to the collection of this debt (including but not limited to internal administration fees, legal fees, collection agency fees, and bank fees).


Snap Rentals does not deduct the insurance excess (bond) from your credit card, but merely hold the authority to deduct it as per these terms and conditions. If you don’t have a credit card, we require cash (NZ$2000.00) as a bond for the amount of your excess. If there is no loss/damage or any reported incidents, speeding fines or parking tickets we will send the cash or back to you 3 weeks after your hire ends. The liability for damage to the vehicle is applicable to the hirer regardless of who is at fault. If the hirer is not at fault, and the third party admits liability, then a refund will be processed upon receipt of payment from the third party. Insurance needs to be renewed in the event of a vehicle being written off. Insurance does not cover the transportation of a replacement vehicle following an accident. Insurance does not cover the hirer’s personal belongings. The hirer is fully liable for any damage to the hired vehicle or third party property if:

– Damage is caused when these terms and conditions are breached
– Damage is caused due to negligence or willful conduct
– Damage is caused due to the use of incorrect or contaminated fuel
– Damage is caused due to using the vehicle in contravention of any legislation or regulation
– The hirer takes the vehicle onto a beach

Excess reduction options

There are four levels of insurance excess options available to the hirer.

– Risky Business Insurance: Our rates include Risky Business Insurance with an excess of NZ$2000.00. i.e. There is no extra cost.

– Hedge Your Bets Insurance: The hirer can choose to pay an additional NZ$9.00 per day (to a maximum of fifty (50) days) and reduce the insurance excess/bond to NZ$900.

– Full Noise Insurance: The hirer can choose to pay an additional NZ$12.00 per day (to a maximum of fifty (50) days) and reduce the insurance excess/bond to NZ$0 ($nil).

Full Noise Insurance includes the following:

    One complete windscreen or multiple windscreen chips
    Multiple tyre replacement

Please note, if the hirer uses Full Noise Insurance to make a claim during the hire (e.g. in the instance of where a police report is issued, or if the windscreen is replaced) Full Noise Insurance is void for the remainder of the hire. It is at the discretion of Snap Rentals to decide whether Full Noise insurance can be issued again. Full Noise insurance does not cover lost or replacement keys, damage caused from snow chains, underbody or over body damage, or towage costs associated with any damage.

– Restricted License (P Plates) Insurance: Restricted or P Plate Licence holders are required to take out this insurance with their hire at the cost of NZ$19.00 per day (to a maximum of fifty (50) days). Full Noise Insurance is included within this insurance.

Windscreen and Tyre Insurance

The hirer can choose to pay an additional NZ$5 per day (to a maximum of fifty (50) days) to be covered for any damage to the windscreen and tyres of your rental vehicle.

Insurance options do not cover loss or damage to accessories hired.

Mechanical Faults

The hirer shall take all reasonable care to ensure that the vehicle is properly maintained during the hire period. This shall include daily checks of the oil, water and battery. The vehicle is covered by 24 hour, 7 days, road-side assistance. If the vehicle has any mechanical failures during the hire these issues must be reported to the Snap Rentals as soon as possible in order to give Snap Rentals the opportunity to rectify the issues during the rental. The hirer is not entitled to any refund unless Snap Rentals has been advised of the issue, and has been given the opportunity to rectify the situation. A refund can be requested from Snap Rentals if a breakdown has directly caused a delay in travel in one location of 48 hours or more. Snap Rentals is not liable for any delay in repair caused by a breakdown occurring on a weekend or public holiday.


Any potential refund for a breakdown of the vehicle is limited to the daily rental rate of the vehicle for each day. This limit is for all costs incurred by the hirer and for the avoidance of doubt includes substitute rental vehicle,  accommodation costs, and any other costs associated due to the breakdown. Snap Rentals does not accept any liability for currency exchange rate fluctuations.

Vehicle substitution and design

Should the vehicle booked be unavailable through unforeseen circumstances, Snap Rentals reserves the right to substitute an alternative vehicle without prior notification, and at no extra cost to the hirer or cancel the booking and refund the hirer all monies paid to Snap Rentals. Please note a substitute vehicle may be with a different supplier. In the event of an accident involving the hirer or any additional driver, Snap Rentals is under no obligation to provide a replacement vehicle. The unused portion of the hire is not subject to refund.


Snap Rentals reserves the right to amend these terms and conditions, vehicle specifications and tariffs at any time without prior notice. Snap Rentals reserves the right to refuse any rental at its own discretion.

In such a case, if you book with us at a quoted rate that is incorrect, we will notify you of any price change and give you the option to proceed or cancel. We make every effort to keep information on our site up to date, but we cannot guarantee this website is free of errors or omissions and retain the right to update or change the information published at any time.

To the extent permitted by law we/the owners of this website will not be liable to you or to any third party (whether in contract, tort, or otherwise) for any direct, indirect or consequential loss or damage (including but not limited to any accident, injury, delay or loss of enjoyment) arising out of your reliance upon information contained on this website, including but not limited to your use (or inability to use) any products or services described or procured through this website.

When you pick up your vehicle, you will be required to sign a rental agreement with the supplier of the vehicle. Your rental and use of the vehicle will be governed by the terms of the rental agreement and any other documentation or information provided to you by the supplier at the time you pick up your vehicle. The rental agreement is between you and the supplier and we will not be liable to you or to any third party in relation to the terms of the supplier's rental agreement or any other documentation provided to you by the supplier at the time of pick up.

While we will make reasonable efforts to ensure we are representing only reputable suppliers, we make no warranty about the fitness or suitability of any third party (supplier) product or service and will not accept responsibility for the quality or fitness of any vehicle. We welcome feedback from our customers on their experience with our suppliers. We may, at our discretion, provide you with reasonable assistance in resolving any dispute you may have with a supplier.

Our total liability to you in relation to your use of this website and the information contained on this website will not exceed the dollar amount of the deposit we have received from you in relation to your booking/rental. Refunds will not be made for bookings cancelled due to inclement weather. Again, we strongly recommend that you take out travel insurance. Your use of this website is governed by the laws of New Zealand and the jurisdiction of the New Zealand courts.

Booking information
To make a booking you must complete our booking form which is easy to follow and secured with the latest encryption technology. Once we receive your form, we will, subject to availability, confirm your booking by emailing you a confirmation voucher and invoice.

If you are booking via phone, please make sure you have read the terms and conditions of the vehicle you wish to rent first. Our reservations consultant will ask you if you have read the terms and agree to them before proceeding. The onus is always on the renter to ensure they make themselves fully aware of the terms displayed on our website.

Information disclosure
In booking on this website you acknowledge that we disclose your information to your selected Supplier in order to provide the requested rental services.

Vehicle capacity and fitness to drive
Under no circumstances are you permitted to carry more passengers than the vehicle you rent is legally registered to carry, and if you do your insurance may be invalidated. The number of seatbelts (and passengers) is indicated next to each vehicle on this website. Luggage capacity where shown is an indication only and we will not be responsible should you be unable to fit your entire luggage into a vehicle. It is your responsibility to choose a journey that is within your capabilities. A vehicle supplier can refuse to rent a vehicle to any person who is in their opinion unfit to drive or does not meet eligibility requirements. In such circumstances we will have no further liability to you.

Refund Policy
In the event of cancellation, any deposit amounts paid at the time of booking are non-refundable. 

If you are unsatisfied with our service, please contact us within 48 hours of placing your booking or request and we will work to resolve any issues and determine if compensation is due. In the event you have completed your rental and are unhappy with your vehicle, we are happy to assist you in seeking compensation from the operator of the vehicle.
